Title: Since I can't reply to an old topic (frustrating), question about wind blockers
Post by: teahead on June 28, 2019, 16:43:50
Everyone is ranting and raving in this thread about Chrome Designs' version, but don't see it on their https://www.chromdesign.de (https://www.chromdesign.de) website.

https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=18643.25

Thread has no reference to the MB part # for their version.  CUrious how it looks, if it's constructed like the aftermarket ones.

E.g.:

This one (https://www.amazon.com/GermanTuningParts-Deflector-Mercedes-W113-1963-1971/dp/B07CRN6V36/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=Wind+Deflector+for+Mercedes+W113&qid=1561739423&s=automotive&sr=1-2-catcorr&vehicle=1970-63-2253-20-----15392------8&vehicleName=1970+Mercedes-Benz+280SL) Looks like the clamps are a bit different.

Most seems to look like this one:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/WIND-DEFLECTOR-MERCEDES-BENZ-280-SL-PAGODA-W113-1963-1971-WINDSTOP-SCREEN/253095245459?fits=Make%3AMercedes-Benz&epid=2227804474&hash=item3aeda6f693:g:ohwAAOSwO6tbe7wQ

including:  https://classic-mercedes-parts.com/en/w113-interior/custom-fit-cabrio-wind-shield-w113.html

This one, looks like a different shape and is UNIVERSAL with W113s and R107s?   Don't think I'd want that.

https://www.authenticclassics.com/Wind-Deflector-for-280-300-350-380-420-450-p/auth-007905.htm

And THIS one is shaped different too!

https://www.budsbenz.com/catalog/230-250-280-sl/n-miscellaneous/N235-117

And THIS One is shaped diff too as well!

https://www.cabriosupply.com/mercedes-benz-w113-pagoda-wind-deflector-1963-1971

Confused.

What's important to me:

1) ease of installation

2) easy removal

3) ease of putting it up/down while in the driver's (or passenger's) seat

4) works good w/headrests and seat all the way back

5) won't flop down while driving

One guy (mdsalemi) on the thread didn't like the Chrome Designs design that has the two clamps on the side?  And it was distorted and didn't hold very well.

The Amazon one has only one clamp on each side, but a clamp on the back:

What does the MB look like?  How is IT designed?

Is this the right part number for the MB one?

1138600074

Are you kidding?  https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-mercedes-benz-parts/air-deflecto/1138600074/

Very different mounting design:

I have one of these and have been very pleased with the ease of installation and removal:

I bought the amazon one:

https://www.amazon.com/GermanTuningParts-Deflector-Mercedes-W113-1963-1971/dp/B07CRN6V36/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=Wind+Deflector+for+Mercedes+W113&qid=1561739423&s=automotive&sr=1-2-catcorr&vehicle=1970-63-2253-20-----15392------8&vehicleName=1970+Mercedes-Benz+280SL

Fits great!  Just needed to bend the arms a little bit for a snug fit.  Then put on some furniture pads (sticky on one side) on the tonneau cover underside.

Did you find that this style of deflector interferes with the headrests at all?

I usually have my seat fully back so I imagine it would end up touching.

Im interested in opinions on wind blockers, but also thread locking.

Teahead started this thread because he couldn't reply to an "old" thread, apparently it was locked due to age?  But, Rahul is able to reply to this thread, which was not active since July 2019.  Did our forum rules change over the years?  What is the current forum configuration setting for reviving old threads?  I've been on forums where members chastise people for reviving old threads, but if the information is pertinent and no changed by time, then what's the problem leaving all threads open?

I hope this doesn't hijack the thread.   :-\

Thread locking is not automatic. I do it once in a while, on threads open for over a year or so. In for sale, wanted etc forums sometimes more frequently, in other forums sometimes slower. The rationale is to prevent people from posting in really old threads when there are potentially more recent threads addressing similar issues.

I can re-open any thread. Send me the URL link to the thread if locked (by PM or e-mail to admin@sl113.org) or Report it to moderator (one of the few valid uses to report the last post in a thread) and I'll reopen it, and let you know I did it.

I've clicked the Notify button to re-open a thread.

Does that do nothing?

That does nothing. It will just mail you when a new post is made in the thread. However, as the thread is locked, nothing will happen.

Use the Report to moderator button and ask for the thread to be re-opened...

I fear my original question has gotten lost in the post!

Yes but it does not matter. Operation of deflector is unaffected...

Looks like it's still available at Amazon for $215:
