Title: Fuel Pump Replacement/Repair
Post by: crossword on May 30, 2019, 18:08:19
My 1970 113's fuel pump (short-type) has quit working. My MB mechanic and I were shocked to find that replacements -- new, used or rebuilt -- are virtually nonexistent (if available at all they can cost over $2300). He can rebuild it, but is even having trouble getting the correct rebuild kit (his latest attempt, coming from Germany to USA, is taking an inordinately long time to arrive).  I have contacted the Mercedes Benz Classic Center which responded saying they knew of no sources for the part, stating "... the only suggestion is to do an internet search with the part number 001 091 52 01" (which results in none being found). My 113 is hardly a show car (more  aptly, a “daily driver”) so I am not necessarily interested in an exact match; I just want to get the car back on the road.  Some forums have suggested that certain BMW fuel pumps can replace the MB original, but I am skeptical. Does anyone know 1) of a source for a replacement fuel pump; 2) if Bosch cross-references this part with a different, but suitable, pump; or 3) if some other manufacturer's pump will work?

You may want to search and contact  a member: Bob Youngman. I believe he will rebuild your pump for you.

Thanks Dirk, Yes I rebuild them, short pumps only, New custom Viton gaskets (far superior to original neoprene MB gaskets) , rewound armature, new Mercedes spec brushes (actually slightly better conductivity), new hardware and 3 year UNLIMITED warranty.  About 5 day turn around. Call or email

Thanks, Dirk and Bob.
Bob, I will contact my mechanic to get the status and, hopefully, get in touch with you.

Just two years ago I bought a brand new one for something like EUR 600. Which is already way too much for what it is.

Just an update ... My mechanic had an old, non-working (but exact replacement) fuel pump on a back shelf. Through the MB Classic Center he was able to locate the correct rebuild kit, which shipped from Germany (thus adding over a week to the process). Now all's well and my 113 is running like a sewing machine. Thanks all for your responses.

Cees (and others),

That's the old style pump, the long one.
And it is on an exchange base.
