Title: New engine start up
Post by: Minerva on May 03, 2019, 07:07:17
I'm just nearly finishing a rebuild of a 230sl engine and want to run her before fitting. What wiring will I need to start her?
Naturally enough I'm aware of starter,   coil, fuel feed pump and cold start wiring, but what will I need going onto the fuel injection pump.
Thanks Keith

You will only need to activate the cold start solenoid on the IP and the intake to help it start. Don't forget to hook up some type of temp gauge.

I always spin the engine over without spark plugs installed until I get full oil pressure on the gauge. Once I get the engine started, I run it until it's at full operating temps while checking for leaks or anything going wrong. After running for about 1/2 hour, I re-torque the head bolts and sometimes drain the oil.

I always start engines using only water for coolant. If you have an internal leak it won't do any real damage like antifreeze would.

Thanks folks wired her up yesterday, got oil pressure up and got her started this morning, started nice and easy, ran well considering its still on the floor!
One issue I've a small oil leak from one of the pins that hold the lower timing chain guide, how would these of been sealed.
