What should a late style  OEM mirror look like on the inside?

It has a spring in the form of a bent wire. This is pressing the mirror from behind, securing it to the plastic surround.
There is a thin cork sheet there, the purpose of this is to protect the rear of the mirror glass

I have the same spring but no cork.  Instead I have to round cardboard pieces.  The fit isn't that great either.
