The item number 4524140419 is a pretty nice looking example of our cars, but it raises a question that I've wondered about since I acquired my own car, 2 years ago. It seems that a photo of the eBay car shows the side view mirror turned with the wide portion, closest to the driver. When I bought my SL, it had dual mirrors and both were turned "wide edge in". I thought this was awkward looking and immediately rotated the mirror to look more "sporty".
So what's the consensus? The eBay car looks nice on the eyes, but I'm really only using it as an example of the mirror rotation.

Mark.
That 230SL is in my neiborhood I will check it out. Nice car but loose the trunk luggage rack and the chrome fender flares and the alloy wheels and you have a nicer looking car. all that stuff is too fussy for a car like this.

Mark,
In the Original Mercedes SL book, all the wide portions are on the outside. I've been advised that this is a definitive guide. It's also the same in Faszination SL. Hope this helps.

I've got to think that the field of vision should increase as you look away from your car from the driver's seat, so I'm guessing the slimmer part should be closest to the body. Seems logical, yes?

Mine has the short side in, wide side out. Been that way a long time.

Wide side out. Looks better, functions better and also gives it a larger appearence.
