Maybe this was discussed in the past. Would the group consider opening a W107 section on the forum?
I thought of a few evident benefits:
- pagoda roof is shared with both W113 and W107 as its successor. it would make natural choice.
- broadening of the forum community (memberships, etc.)
- forum already has W111 area: +W107 = more the merrier without diluting the purpose of the forum
- attracting members who can now only afford W107 and popularizing the knowledge share among and growth into W113
What do you guys say?
-
The original reason that the W11x was added was due to the commonality of a lot of the mechanicals and was built during the same period. I don’t believe the 107 has the same commality to warrant a section.
W107 questions can be added in the “Other Cars” area and any search will find the info.
-
I agree that there's insufficient commonality with the 107 series. Plus I would not want to 'cannabalize' existing 107 forums under the adage that 'less is more'.
-
No.
-
As one who has benefitted greatly by the W11x addition, I would say no as well. Not only is the commonality of parts an issue, but the R107 is from a different era. And besides, how big can this group get without imploding? I think this formula has been working very well and wouldn’t want to mess with it.

I agree with the "No's"
The W107 was produced up to 1989. A totally different beast.
-
If it ain't broke . . .
-
Besides...it was never a W107! It was a R107...
I know I start being an annoyance to some, with my smart aleck comments... :o :P

Mike,
MB vehicles come with model designation indicated with Wnnn in the chassis/VIN number - I trust you know that. This change occurred some time around 1985 or about.
Commonly used W107 to indicate body style - has both Roadster and Coupe version, alike to W111. I do not believe we would use C111 and R111, would we?
Both Roadster and Coupe in W107 are well designed and well sold vehicles. Their long production life is a testament to that.

Alright, I guess then it is a no to W107 after all...

I do not want to get into a p...ng contest about semantics with the experts here, but the 107, when introduced in March/April of 1971 was definitely known and identified as R107. (R for "Reihe"). When the SL was joined by the 350SLC in October 1971, the "SL Coupe" was indeed called C107.
I am not exactly sure, what you are referring to in 1985, but the 107 SLC came to an end in 1981 already. Being replaced by the SEC coupes based on the W126 S-Class. Whether you call the 107 models R or C or combine them as W, shouldn't really matter as we all know what we are talking about. My comment was a "tongue-in-cheek" remark.
-
I started off calling it the W107 and agree that is not actually correct. My mistake.
I like this forum because although us 111 and 108 owners do not have Pagodas we do have something which is more or less identical except for the body (V8 versions excepted). 90% of posts on the forum are relevant to my W111 car and I read most of them,
Also, I am sure the 107 is well supported already.
-
Fully agree with the majority's view to the things regarding W113/W111/W108 versus W/R/C107.
The 107 body is a completely other car and there is only little in common with our beloved 113 models.
Instead, the W108 & 111 pass cars are technically brothers/sisters to our W113's
and thus it is fine if we do discuss the parallel aspects here.
Not so for the 107...
But why not having a separate section R/W/C107 in our "Other cars" section ..
On the other side I see that there are already quite some W/C/R107 forums alive
Just my 2 cents ....

Hi Achim,
Like many people I click the "show unread posts" when I first view the forum. If this is half filled with 107 posts it will be less efficient.
It will be the same when you use the search function for key words too.
I like the 107, I will probably buy one some day. I am not biased in any way about these cars.

Slightly off-topic... can anyone recommend a 107 forum that's possibly HALF as helpful as this one? After moving to south Florida, I sold my W113 in October :'( but just bought an R107 due to having a void in my garage. ;)
-
Kevin,
Have you tryed to Google “Mercedes 107 Forum”
I think you will get quite a few results. Mind you none as good and helpful as our forum here :)

I have both a 107 and a Pagoda and they should be kept separate. Keep the Pagoda SL Group just that please.
-
I do not think that the 107 should be added. I feel I belong to a very fine and exclusive forum (club) and I feel special to own one of these fine automobiles. I believe it would dilute (maybe dilute is not right word) the overall appreciation of the enjoyment I get out of it. I wish I knew what I am rambling on about. Chumps

As a owner both R107 and W113 I say no as well. Here's a 107 forum that very active and helpful. https://www.benzworld.org/forums/r-c107-sl-slc-class/

I’m also an owner of both the W113 and the R107 but like things as they are. It would dilute this great group!

I think the Founding Fathers and Board Directors of years past meant well when they added a Forum Section “Other Card” As has been said there are already other fine Mercedes Benz cars mentioned in there and if I had a 107 I too would post in that forum section any questions I might have. Our forum set up with the “Show new or Unred Posts” options will bring interested parties to that area.
To this end I think the forum is well set up and as they say “Leave well enough alone” Afterall our forum is sl113.org
Just my 2 cents ... Canadian Cents thst is :) btw our cents are no longer a curentcey.
