Title: Early type mirrors
Post by: wayne R on December 09, 2018, 03:06:17
Hi Garry,---membership administrator, would you mind , i need some advice,
you will remember i showed, some photos of my 1965 in the= full member introduction section.
You showed a photo of your lovely  230 rear photo.
I what to replace the incorrect mirrors on my 65, to the same as yours ,correct early type,.
What i would like to know, does the  passenger  side adjust  ok for you to see correctly,
i realize yours is right hand drive, and mine is left hand, just want to make sure before i order them.  regards.

Hi Wayne,

The correct position for the off side mirror is slightly further back than the drivers.  Don’t ask how i know!!!  I am assuming the same applies to the lhd cars.

I believe this is the answer.

The DRIVERS side is 62mm from the leading (front) edge of the door to the start of the chrome base, and the PASSENGERS side is 72mm. That is the chrome not the rubber gasket.

Although here is another take on it.

just don’t forget to ensure you have a backing plate in there. The soft aluminium skin of the door will not hold the mirror for long.  It it is not already in there one can be fitted with a good adhesive to stop stress cracking of the metal.
