Title: What is this? Trunk Lid Spring
Post by: RickInTex on January 27, 2005, 08:00:09
A trunk lid spring for a 113, the seller says.  I don't think I have such a thing on my car, and I didn't know it existed (the item, that is--not my car).  Haven't seen it on any of the usual sites listing parts.  A confused seller?

This spring, similar in in design to the hood prop spring up front, does double duty:  It holds the trunk lid up when the convertible top boot is locked shut, and it holds the top boot up when the trunk is locked shut.  When facing forward looking into the trunk, one end is attached to the left trunk hinge an the other end is attached to the right top boot hinge.  This an ingenious and (almost) fool proof means of preventing damage to the trunk and top boot lids by trying to open one when the other is open already.

Thanks for the education on an item I'd never seen before.  Now I know.
