My drivers door (RHD) lock won't work. The key goes in and out fine, but won't turn all the way to lock, however the locking mechanism inside the door lock, not the key seems to be the problem. The reason I think it is the lock itself is that the inside lock lever will not lock the door either. I have the door card off but am reluctant to take the whole door closer/lock mechanism off the door unless I have to.
Any ideas what it might be, again I am dairly sure it is not the tumblers or wafers inside the key mechanism itself.

Rodger,
Is the small rubber guide locator still fitted into the hole. Sometimes when this dislodges the lever will not move the locking action completely over into lock mode.

If you already have the upholstery off, I would:
1. Check what Garry is suggesting - the rubber guides for the rod - are they stuck in the door frame as they should be?
2. Yo can unclip the rod from the lock. Then see what prevents the lock from locking. Check if the rod is moving freely through the guides.
3. Check overall if all the joints and levers are clean and a bit lubricated.
I had a similar issue twice. Once it was what Garry said. The other time it was that the rod somehow started moving through the guides with a lot of friction, I had to put some lubricant there.

Yes,
Like others have said, also get your self a can of multipurpose lubricant, WD40 is ok , but
there are others now that actually better lubricant--example here in Ausy one is called RP7
from selleys, and better if it has the long nylon spray extension.
Sqray this down from top or at the lock mechanism , while trying your key at gently at the same time.
Dont worry re spraying over glass etc, can be cleaned off after.
