Title: Book set for 280SL Pagoda
Post by: Jeccles on November 01, 2018, 18:54:23
Hi All

Could you advise where I may be able to buy and build up a "Book Set" (Owners Manual etc)  for a 280SL Pagoda?

I have purchased one and the car is really great. All numbers match, the weldspots are bang on and the "hidden" numbers at various parts on her are all there and match according to her Data Card but there are no books at all.

I would like to build up some form of book set to try and compliment her.

I am based in South Africa and am happy to purchase anywhere in the world.

Suggestions?

There has been much written about this on the forum, the search function can help with the full contents. They are also listed in Pagoda Notes Volume 2, No 3 and 4.

The only truly specific items for the Pagoda are the owners manual and the small parts book. Everything else is generic for the era (car car products, service book, seat belts, etc.). Patience is the key to acquiring a full set. eBay is your friend.

Hi Jonny

Thanks for the reply and advise. It seems like I have located an Owners manual (Yay) and it looks like I will start a friendship with E-Bay.

What small parts book is it that I should be looking for if I may?

Regards

Jeccles, Welcome to the group.  I am not with my car for another few weeks but I am sure some one will post a picture of the parts manual.

As Jonny B mentioned there are also some generic items.  Some of these may be desirable to collect for your set.  The Service Booklet for recording dealer service is pictured here.  If you have a period Becker radio, there is also an appropriate Becker booklet.

Jonny B mentioned Pagoda Notes.  I believe you will need to pay the small fee for Full Membership to access these documents and some other items in the site Technical Manual.  It is money well spent as t will also get you Pagoda World when issued.

Again welcome to the group.

How about the soft-top manual?

Here's a pretty thorough set.

The soft top manual is easy to procure through Mainecoone red on eBay, although it is a reproduction.

The proper parts book depends on the year of your car. I have 12142 dated Jan 1968 (with an orange cover) and another 12142 dated Jan 1970 with a black cover, both are listed as Edition B. There is also a USA book, 12808 with a black cover (mine is listed as Dec 1972).

The same for the owner's manual. There is an early one with 250 SL - 280 SL on the cover, and a later one with just 280 SL.
