well darn,
i was almost done finishing the interior on my car all i had to do was install the glove box.
i was about to set the glove box in place, noticed the glove box door was not opening smoothly when the arm broke off.
i did search the forum and found this post so i appears the rod can be brazed back into place. (https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=21496.msg152963#msg152963)
it loks as if i need to figure out how to separate the 2 halves of the door to get to where the rod is brazed?
any tips would be appreciated

You will most likely need to re-paint anyway - is it not better to buy a second hand door?
Here is one on ebay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/MERCEDES-280-250-230-SL-113-GLOVE-BOX-DOOR-LID-230SL-250SL-280SL-CHROME/173596833860?hash=item286b2d7844:g:JE4AAOSwB9xXOjL-:rk:45:pf:0&vxp=mtr
But I am sure the usual ebay sellers may have some of them too. May ask Niemoeller or the store sin the US.

Mine broke at disassembly. I welded it back on and ground the weld smooth. Why are you thinking of taking the halves apart?

hi,
i thought it was necessary to split the door to re weld.
I took it to a local shop and they are just going to weld it back on for me. I need to order paint to finish the job.
from my research it appears the rods break off sometimes.. Sucks because I had the box in and took it out. thats when it broke.
I did ask Gernold at SL tech what he does and he said he finds and buys a used door and repaints as needed.

Yes that’s unfortunate. If they are careful with the welding you may only have to paint the inside. . In my case it wasn’t a big deal because everything still gets painted. (Also, and you probable did that, make sure that it is welded in in the correct location.)

I know it may be obvious, but I will write it:
if I were going to the welders, I would take the complete box with me with the fixed hinge and when they do the "touch" weld, I would fit the door and check if rod goes through the hole with no squeak.
Rosette will fit... it has to go smooth with rosette installed.

Pawel , Dirk
thank you for the tips.
I will make sure to take the box with me when i pick up the door.
i really felt bad when the rod broke off. but after all of the feedback i guess it happens.
i will post the results when i receive the door.
