Hi,
I have a 1970 280 SL.
According to the Manual, the CSV is only activated when the engine is cold; for that, the CSV relay is only activated if the Thermo time switch reads below 35ºC.
So far, so good.
But ... apparently, my car does not have a thermo time switch. Instead, it has a 100ºC switch (on top of the thermostat) and a 17ºC switch (in the back of the blcok, near the FIP). These two switches work together with the Emmissions Control System, changing the distributor's advance according to the engine temperature (bellow 17ºC or above 100ºC).
So, the big question is: where is the CSV relay getting the engine temperature in order to choose wether or not to activate the CSV.
Any help will be appreciated.
Kind regards
Francisco

Your thermo time switch is probably at the back of the cylinder head above the spark plugs.

Many thanks.
I’ll check that.

Towards the firewall from spark plug 6. A bit above, as Dan says.
