Title: Adding a Cold Start Shut Off Relay
Post by: dakman29 on September 11, 2018, 17:24:20
I have read that the early cars had a factory installed round relay (part 001 545 1624) that would activate the CSV for one second on a warm engine to aid in starting.  I've also read that this relay may be added to a later car to assist with hard warm starts.  I know that the harness ( part 108 540 1009) is also required for this modification.  My question is, assuming I can find the parts, what is the procedure for adding this setup to a 280sl? I reviewed the starting aid tour in the manual but did not see the procedure described.  Thanks

The cheapest and most effective fix is to wire a momentary cabin switch to the CSV. With a push of the button, you get a squirt of fuel before the engine starts. Then when the engine starts to spin, the fuel is immediately sucked in. You can learn when to activate it and when not to. Many people here have already done this and are happy with the results. You could try searching the site to find the posts. You can hide the switch under the dash and no one will know except you.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am aware of that option, but if anyone has any information on the install procedure on the relay it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

here's scan from the BBB. Sorry not very good quality. Harness is still available, but relay NLA.
