Title: Outside Door Handle Pads

Has anyone here experienced outside door handle pads shrinking with age to the extent that the door sheet metal holes are inadequately covered?  My original ones no longer completely cover the rear of the rear hole.  I have ordered new ones from MrFiat, hoping that they solve the problem.
Has anyone seen this before?  Here's a set like is causing me the problem.  The original 50 year-old ones, not new ones I hope.
