Title: brake problems, horn sounding intermittently.
Post by: mgmoore on September 04, 2018, 21:03:24
Hi All,

Took my 230sl out today for a drive and came home. Went to park the car in the garage and noticed that the brake pedal was virtually on the floor. Checked the fluid reservoir and it's full? Don't know when the fluid was last changed but master cylinder and brake servo looks to be quite new. Is it worth bleeding the system first to check for trapped air before purchasing another master cylinder?

Next new issue is when you turn the steering wheel the horn starts to sound intermittently. Have removed the steering wheel to reveal a copper ring beneath. Is it possible to adjust the ring downwards to prevent contact when turning the steering wheel?

Thanks for the advice,

Matt

I’d definitely try bleeding but it sounds like the master cylinder might be bad.   Did this change happen immediately or was it gradually getting worse?
It’s been a long time since I took my steering apart, I can’t remember.

Slop in the horn ring, usually causes horn issues. Look for missing rubber buffers, missing spring, pinched wire.
