i removed the door panels on my 66 and had them recovered.
there was supposed to be a screw below the curved door pull and above the hard map pocket. (photo)
The door panels i removed did not have a screw there but the panel does have a hole in it for the screw and the door itself does have the tab where the screw would go.
i have some ideas but i wanted to ask the forum for tips before i start poking a hole in my new GAHH door vinyl .
thank you Matt

You make a hole finder:
Take a strip of aluminium about an inch wide and more than twice the distance from the edge of the panel to where you will need the hole.
Fold the strip in half and drill a hole at the opposite end to the fold through both pieces.
Spread the halves slightly so you can then insert a self-tapping screw through one of the holes; screw head on the inside between the two halves.
Push the half of the tool with the screw in it up under the door card and locate the screw in the hole in the door frame. The top half of the tool now has a guide hole over the exact spot where you want the hole to be in the trim.
Make your new hole!
Simples!

Great method! Better than the paint!

I don't remember my car having a screw in the door panel at that location either...

Do not know about the US. In Euro it is there. Otherwise you, sooner or later, tear away either the panel or the pocket while closing door.
It is shown in Tech Manual. There is a threaded hole for it in the door frame.
