I constantly struggle with the Concourse Vs. Great daily driver level. And now, I tackle the hood emblem issue. Original is around $300 and other OEM versions are around $ 30.....am I crazy or do the other Mercedes badges fit?
-
I purchased this hood emblem as a back up for the original badge on my 300SL R107 which was coming loose. I ended up not using it as I managed to refasten the original badge.

To answer your question, yes they do fit, and when looking at them side by side in situ, you can't tell the difference between the two badges.

The mounting posts are slightly different. Attached is a photo.

I have to take a closer look at mine. I thought my top stud had broken off. Now realize it's just a guide/ alignment stud. Mine might be ok after all.

Actually, the W113 emblem has a threaded M4 post in the one position, the 107 a pin.
A major difference between the two types is, the W113 emblem has a more smooth, flat top surface. The blue around the laurel and the white star are ceramic.

The R/W107 one is like open texture, a simpler made item. The blue and the white is just paint. Hence the price difference!
The two types are identified by "113" vs. "107" numbers on the reverse side, can be seen on Jonny B's pic. Useful for identification if you find a loose emblem at some swap meet

The 190SL/300SL is the same porcelain emblem but the threaded stud is 180 degrees opposite also.

For what it's worth, the badge which I purchased for €29- from MB Classics for my R107 is specifically a Mercedes R107 part, however the studs are in the same location as the W113 badge- see pics.
According to Alexander at MB Classics they are interchangeable, albeit that one is ceramic and the other is paint, therefore the price difference.

Mike
