Title: Power steering flush

unfortunately there is no plug where you can drain your steering fluid. I did it by dilution means suck the reservoir e.g. with a big syringe (250ml) and refill it with fresh ATF fluid.I did this several times. Don't forget to change the filter at the bottom of the reservoir.

In the pic below you can see the state of the old filter compared to the new one.

It's also worth checking the condition of the rubber seal on the inside of the reservoir cap, which in my case needed replacing.
The fluid had been leaking out of the top of the cap.

Why would that matter or make a difference? I use synthetic ATF in my power steering but I'm sure ordinary stuff would OK.

Note to further post: gasket for lid is paper or fiber and not rubber.

Perhaps it does not. Perhaps the MB specs are there just to make more margin. But if they are there and it does not cost a fortune - I prefer to observe them...

and did all the normal things ,bleed out all air from bleed nipple to reservoir.
over the years i have always used Preston power steering fluid
in all my classics,,so i used it this time in my 1965 230SL and
im sure the steering is so much quieter and smoother than ever.

There is really no operating condition in a P/S system which will make the fluid deteriorate if you follow the rules. And when you open the system, the chance that you introduce contamination is a big one.
Small particles are the main enemy of a properly functioning power steering pump and steering valve in the gear.
