Title: SLS good source for parts?
Post by: Eryck on January 15, 2005, 11:37:53
I just checked out their website. It's a great site with accurate pics and description. The only problem is that the Euro is so damn strong vs the US (or HKD). I need to order A LOT of things and wondering if this is the place to do it. How are their prices compared to other sources? I don't assume there to be a single best source for parts? Any advice would be appreciated.

I've had good experiences on parts with Niemoller in Hamburg and Van Dijk here in Amsterdam. But if you are affected by the euro-USD movemenent, you may be better off buying in the US as long as prices aren't increased there. Watch out for import duties, VAT etc.

If You need a lot it`s worth to buy a reprint
of the original 230 SL parts catalogue first.
Figure out what you need, make your personal
list of wanted parts incl. Merc part no`s.
As most parts are still available, this is
a good start getting an overview of parts
and what they cost. The search button on
this site will help You to find out good
sources for any part You need.

I highly recommend SLS. They are great to deal with. Efficient delivery. If you call them they speak English as well as German. Furthremore, most parts are produced in Europe (among others by SLS), so prices in US dollars will follow up in time.

Also, you can check here in the database section of the website for supplier info:

In case you are not aware of it: our very own Dan Caron (Benz Dr.) supplies parts as well.

YES! Buy a parts book from MB.  Mine has been invaluable in learning about my car and ensuring that I get correct parts.  Best money spent!  We need to get this and other factory literature added to this list.
