Title: Oil Filter
Post by: Sleek Lemur on June 19, 2018, 15:36:54
I ordered an oil filter from the SL Shop in UK, but the one they have sent is 5mm or so too long (see photo). They are convinced that the one they sent is what Mercedes have sent them for my engine (number 13098322011393)

I have owned my 1970 for 11 years and now I have more time on my hands I thought I'd get back into looking after the car myself. This is the first time I'm changing the oil myself !

Am tearing my few remaining hairs out ! Any help v v gratefully received !

Hi,
the correct size of the oil filter is: A=70, B=26, C=26, H=117 mm.

Just a guess, but perhaps this new longer filter is intended to eliminate the need for the large internal (or infernal!) seal.  When I got a new filter and seal from my local M-B dealer last fall I was surprised to find that the current  M-B supplied "seal" was little more than a little o-ring - not the substantial thick rubber seal that I remember from years past!

gosh, thank you for such a quick reply !

I found the spec for a Mann filter which seemed to be 121mm, so I'll have a go and see if it squishes in !

Ok, panic over. I just went for it and all ok. The new one has squeezed into place.

Thank you both again.

Have you made sure that the top rubber seal is in place?
See pic below.

Hi,
for correct oil filtering the donut looking seal at the bottom of the cannister is very important: https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Engine/Lubrication.
