Did anyone else see the Sky Sports F1 coverage of the Monaco Grand Prix this past weekend? During the pre race show Nico Rosberg took Simon Lazenby for a tour of the circuit in his 1970 280SL. It was rather comical seeing them struggle with the convertible top in the rain in the middle of traffic. Simon caught the ire of Nico when he dinged the door on a barrier. The best part was at the end when Simon asked if he should fix the heater and radio for Nico. My SL may be humbler than Nico's, but at least those two items work. In fact, everything works.
In any case, nice to see a well preserved Pagoda, put to good use.

Did not see that one, however, last year I saw a similar one when Nico Rosberg took his Pagoda on a trip around the Grand Prix course. That time it was a nice sunny morning.
I cannot wait until September / October when Garry Marks and I will take a Pagoda for a leisurely spin around the same are after attending the 2018 Euro Tour and returning from the visit to The Paul Bracq Ateliers visit.

Hello Dieter, Been around the course these past years a few times but in a tour bus. :( Here is a photo from the my first time there taken through the windshield of my VW back in May 1965, two weeks before the race. Looked a bit different back then.

Thanks for posting Hans, I still cannot understand why he did not use the philips screw driver from his tool kit to fasten the screw on his sunwiser before driving the car. Also, cleaning the car using the glass cleaner fluid was not cool :)

That is SOOO not cool
No seatbelts either. Maybe lap belts but I'd have thought the resto would have put 3 point belts in

Rolf_Dieter and I in a Pagoda driving around the F1 roads in Monaco with top down. Comments will be, “look at those two old grandpa’s, are they reminiscing about the one that got away” ;D ;D ;D 8) 8)

Garry,
They properly will look and say .... "oh look there those two old fellows must be coming in last from around 1967 or so". What they don't know is how much fun we are having in our golden age.
One thing is for certain we will NOT under any circumstance keep adjusting our sun-wiser constantly (I think Nico adjusted his up about 7 times when one can see that he does it, it was most likely many more times more when the camera was not on him), we would simply use the Philips screw driver from the by now so highly expensive tool kit and take care of that minor issue. :)
I like Nico, however, driving and talking with his hands is just not cool, Garry and/or I will not do something like that our hands will be firmly on the steering wheel :)

Just back from Monaco for the F1 race, what an amazing week we had. Nico did 2 parade laps in his 2016 winning Mercedes F1 car, with his father Keke in his winning Williams.

Nico did that? Well David Coulthard did it too several years ago. Both have sublime taste in automobiles.

Nice videos. Makes me want to ship my 280 over and spend a summer driving around Europe.
Maybe a bucket list item for when I am retired.

There's an article in "Octane" this month about Coulthard, and he's pictured with the '71 Pagoda he bought

Lucky Chap you are mjt!! A Lovely part of France. St Paul de Vence town and the museum at Foundation Maeght are a couple of our favorite places.
Enjoy your excursion to Monaco.

I once cycled along the coast from Pisa to Nice. I also popped around the Monaco circuit but on my bicycle ;)
