Title: Question about name and part number
Post by: abdullah412 on April 22, 2018, 12:18:55
greetings,

i hope you are doing fine, I'm doing an engine rebuild for my father's 1969 280SL, we took some parts like pulleys and side cover to color it with (Goldy) color ( i don't know the exact name sorry but i think you got it :D) by galvanizing in a workshop.

in processes of galvanizing the first step is to dip the parts in acid, one part is melted in the acid (because i think it's aluminum) and i want to order it. but the problem is i don't know the name or the number of this part. i will attach a photo shows the needed part circulated in red.

please if you know online store that have this part and can ship to my country (Saudi Arabia).

best

Welcome to the forums Abdullah. Check our vendor catalog, and try SLS in Hamburg or Niemoller. Although the part does not show in their online catslog, they may have it. Otherwise try Mercedes as this may be something only they sell. Or try to find used. It is part of the gas linkage system besides being an engine block cover.  Good luck.

Part #1270721401
The number is partially visible on the old part in your photo. This cover/linkage support should be kept bare aluminum. Not plated or painted.

abdullah412, I did a quick check on the part number and availability through Mercedes dealers.

The number provided, A 1270721401 as well as another part number for this bearing holder, A 1270701724, are correct, but not valid anymore in Mercedes system, so the dealer may not be able to find them and will tell you they do not have them. I think what you need and can get is part number A1300700224. In my geography it is 72hours availability and it costs net (no VAT) about $100.

But if you order through Mercedes, please double check it with the dealer if it is suitable for your engine number. Tell the dealer to look for it in the EPC under Injection Pump section. I bet you they will look for it in engine housing, but they will not find it there :).

i don't know how to thank you guys, you have done too much for me. i sent emails to three online stores and i expect they will reply today if they have it or not, otherwise i will buy it from the link provided by Tyler.

Pawel, thanks a lot for spending time searching. funny thing i was expecting some part will melt in the acid but i didn't expect to be this very rare part it's really hard to find and costly. but it's a nice thing knowing you guys through this problem :D

BIG THANKS TO YOU NICE PEOPLE!

abdullah412, I do not know how far you are on the way to have your Pagoda restored, but I have to say, that a part you can get in Merceds within 3 days for $100 may not be called "hard to find and costly"....  ;) ;) ;) ;)

It's a pleasure to help!

I'll bet Dan Caron and myself have 20 or 30 good used ones between the both of us.
