Title: wipers are stuck
Post by: free2keun on April 17, 2018, 17:22:37
Hello Pagoda friends,
Can you help me with this problem.  the wiper mechanism is stuck.  The electric wiper motor works well, slow and fast.  But the rod , inside the dash, is stuck.  I put some WD-40 on it, but after 3 days spraying, it is still stuck.  I put away the glove box to get better to the rod, but this won't move.  The right channel is loss, but the right, the channel behind the instrumental part, is stuck.  How can I get it work without open the hole dash ?

Go to the bottom of this link and see what I did to lube the posts. Maybe too late. I hear its a huge job to get the mechanism out.
Also I have seen where you could buy a attachment to the wiper post to force grease into the mechanism.
Good luck

Here is the grease fitting adapter, but I would doubt it would be the solution.

You probably need to disassemble the dash... There was a short artice about this issue in Pagoda Notes 12No1.

Also, a video has kindly been made available see at 5min40sec here; it has some in-depth information:

Unfortunately, the best long term solution is removal and disassembly. Removing the linkage will require removal of your heat/vent controls, instruments, radio and glove box. This would be a good time to check your heater core, rubber drain tubes and lubricate the heat/vent control cables. When I strarted the reassembly of my restoration, the wiper mechanism was the 1st part I installed. I am not implying that you need to take your entire car apart.  ;)

...grease fitting adapter...

So now to follow up on your success, you should acquire the grease fitting adaptor that specracer mentioned and properly lubricate the spindles to help prevent future binding.

Glad the oil tubes fixed your problem.
What a mess to have to take it all apart.
If you lubed with oil once a year you should be good to go.
