Title: Cracks in steering wheel
Post by: merrill on April 07, 2018, 22:38:22
I went to install a new wheel skins steering wheel cover today.
when i removed the old cover i found 2  cracks on each side of the steering wheel (photos)

there are mirror cracks on the back side as well.

Glad i saved my pagoda world with the steering wheel restoration article.
Ordered some PC-7 paste epoxy today.  i guess i have a project for next weekend.

Yes, if you were so kind - which issue is it? I have my old steering wheel with cracks hanging on the wall in the garage - maybe it is recoverable?

I don't have access to this article but I have read about this process elsewhere with a few short notes on this web site. I am curious what our members experience has been with the longevity of these epoxy repairs?

There are numerous YouTube videos on steering wheel restoration. If you park your car in a garage where temps go below freezing it would be worth considering to remove the steering wheel and leave it in a warm place. There is metal core inside the wheel that expands at a different rate than the outer material.

Well, this is an important remark, Frank, thank you! I do not have this type of storage, but you never know where the car will end up one day...

Had my steering wheel refurbished by this guy 5 years ago and still looks great, no issues.  Never an issue with the judges.

I am afraid either issue 11 September 2009 is not there or I do not know how to find it...
