Title: Replacing Rear Shock Absorbers
Post by: Mark in KS on April 30, 2003, 13:11:31
I bought some new Bilstein shocks for the rear end. Where's the best place to lift the rear end with a hydraulic floor jack? Where's the best place to locate the jack stands for safe maintenance underneath?

Recommend lifting rear with hydraulic jack beneath differential & placing jack stands front & rear beneath the 4 jacking points, 2 on each side. -JP-

I'd agree but go a bit further.
If the frame rails are rusty then you should put your stands under the trailing arms and is where I normaly lift the car while it's on a hoist. I place the front lift arms on the heavy frame near the front which runs along side the trans and under the front flooor.
When you undo the shocks you should suport the rear axel tube so that it won't drop. This can do unseen damage inside of the axel.
