Hello everyone,
I’m a relatively new W113 owner with the beginnings of an on-going, drive as I’m muddling along, restoration of a 1969 280 manual.
The engine has been rebuilt and now I’m looking to put miles on the car after a couple of years of inactivity.
While looking to get some mileage in the engine, 3rd gear is developing a banshee like wail, after about 60km/40 mile trips...
I’m in the Midlands, in the UK and would be grateful for recommendations for someone suitable to change, what I suspect is at least one, and likely all the bearings, which I would envisage SLS providing.
Any advice to the contrary would be most welcome.

I bought a Getrag gearbox to do a 5 speed conversion. It was rebuilt by a company called All Gears in Worksop, Notts.
They are a small family firm and have an excellent reputation but I am not sure if they do the removal/refitting if you require this too.

Thanks Peter, I’m at the other end of the A50, so this could work too.
Many thanks,
David

There are four bearings used in a MB transmission. They are all readily available at any bearing retailer. It's unlikely that they would carry the two top bearings with locating rings so you might have to wait a day or two for them but they're not special order. Some special tools are needed but it's not too hard to do one if you know how.
Doing one set up to factory specs is a whole different matter. This involves a lot of measuring with a various thickness of shims to get the end play set right and a depth micrometer is a must for accuracy.
