can anyone recommend a source for a seat belt extender for my 66 230 sl?

Buds Benz has contacted their seat belt manufacturer to see if they will make me an extender

hi,  yes those lengths of seat belt webbing are readily available.

I am actually looking for  an extended with the buckle on one end and latch on the other with about 15" of webbing .

Similar to something like you would find on an Airline.

hopefully buds benz will come thru.

hi,
so the reproduction units  from buds benz has a different tongue than mine.   

theirs has a triangle shaped tongue and my car has a squarish tongue.  so they cannot help me

if you have a triangle shaped tongue they probably can help you get an extender.   
just go to their web site, under upholstery you will see their repro belts.

Rusty can help you from there

I pulled my seats this weekend to re cover and found that there was extra webbing on my seat belts that was not being used.

about 10"

But for the fact that the webbing of the belt pictured has been seriously compromised it wouldn't have hurt to try extending the belt enough for a comfortable fit when you reinstall your seat.  However I would not reinstall those unsafe belts under any circumstances!  That amount of damage to a seat belt can result in a great deal more damage to whomever occupies that seat in the event of an accident.
