The newest issue of Classic & Sports Car has a very nice article, complete with photos, about a '69 280SL that was originally owned by the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Beirut and subsequently acquired by an Englishman working there in 1996. He drove it all over Lebanon, Syria and Jordan and now keeps it at his home in Umbria. It is a bit exotic in Italy as it still has its Lebanese license plates.

In the article it is mentioned that when the owner drove to Syria he wanted to travel with the top down and left his hardtop behind in a Beirut garage, thinking that he would get back to retrieve it. But it never came to pass. It would be cool if one of our members in that area could discover the whereabouts of that hardtop with the view of trying to reunite it with the Pagoda! That could make quite a follow-up article!

Since we are talking about Beirut--this is probably a job for a [US] Navy Seal Team, a [British] SRR or similar...or as others would say--"you first". But we do have at least one member in Lebanon...
