My 71 did not come with the passenger side mirror (although an option)
I rely heavily , as I am sure most of us do on the passenger side mirror on our other cars
Based on the comment listed here (#506) http://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/OptionCodes, the right had mirror is considered ineffective ....is this true?
I want to keep my car as close to original as I can, but adding that mirror (if it useful) would be a big plus when changing lanes.
If according to the members it works well, then I would like to set it up with some type of magnet(I know I would have to cut the 2 pieces.
Opinions? Do you think it would work?
Regards

Steven, I have a passenger side mirror in an LHD car and it is absolutely perfect in e.g. city traffic and on any multi-lane road. I can not imagine driving in the city with soft top up and without this mirror.
Here you have some opposing voices (for you to balance your view) and some installation tips:

I believe it is a question of the correct mirror with correct glass placed in the correct place. And yes, for adjustment (other then a method described in one of the links with seeing the headrest) - you need a remote controller. This remote controller can be your wife, one of the kids or a friend. Working passenger window shifter helps if you want to adjust this mirror while driving.

Hi,
the normal glass mirrors espec. on the passenger side are more or less useless but with convex glass it's very helpful, see here https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=25615.msg188363#msg188363.
Pictures for the right position see here: https://www.pagodentreff.de/diskussionsforum/threads/aussenspiegel-rechts.2779/.

Its most definitely worth having a passenger side mirror with a convex lens. One can even get an aspheric lens made.
helps a lot driving a RHD car on the continent.

I got a bit confused myself regarding the passenger mirror when reading comments on the forum. I have a 70 which of course uses the later style mirror just loke your 71. My confusion was with placement of the mounting holes. It is the early style (gooseneck) that require a different mointing placement on the door in order to avoid having the windshield frame block your view. This adjustment is not necessary when mounting the late style mirror. You can use the same hole placement as the drivers side.

any thoughts on a magnet?
if I drill holes and install, would it lessen the originality?

Drill holes? Where are you referring to?

Adding a passenger side mirror
My car was not ordered with that option.
Would it, in your opinion, lessen then value in any way?

Hi,
a mirror for the passenger side ("Aussenspiegel rechts" for LHD) was an option so quite normal, see http://www.pagodenteile.de/info/31.htm, even this option was not ordered by delivery, and will not lessen the value of your car, my 2 cents.

Steven, a magnet will not work on those aluminum doors!

Joe,
Would adding a passenger side mirror, in your opinion, have a negative affect in any way?

I wrote in the previous post that right side mirror helps me a lot in city traffic. That was with flat glass mirror - and I still think it is useful.
But I have read what the fellow members wrote about convex mirror. I ordered them last weekend and to day I have installed them. Well, it is a big difference, I have to admit. I have not been driving today, but just a quick look confirms the convex advantage. I htink the safety of driving it will help a lot.
