First post - can any of you guys help - I'm stripping my 230sl and I having trouble dropping the steering column - I have undone the two nuts hold the strap but the strap does not want to pull away from the dash it seem to get held up in the box section - I'm I missing something?

Hi Gary,
I would say the threads are binding on the side of the hole.Give the threads a bump with a piece of wood or something that won't damage the thread, while moving the column out side the dash.
Also loosen the clamp ring at the base of the column.Even if you get the strap loose, the ignition key bezel wants to sit against the hole and ring escutcheon in the dash,so movement in the steering column is usually limited and difficult.
Good Luck.
