Title: UK Restoration Specialists

Hi All,

I could not seem to find a recent list of Pagoda specialists in the UK.

I will be moving to the UK (Edinburgh) due to work commitments in April and I will be taking my Pagoda with me. I would like to be put in touch with a reputable shop that I can approach to get various jobs done on the vehicle.

My priority is to get the engine redone. So if anyone could recommend a well regarded engine specialist in the UK? Obviously up north would be ideal however I am willing to send the motor elsewhere in the country if the workmanship will be better.

So far through browsing the web I have found:

1. Roger Edwards
2. SL Shop
3. Hemmels

Does anyone have any recommendations from their past experiences?

Apologies if there is already a thread regarding this, please link me to it if the case.

https://www.theslshop.com/ its a good shop the have also improvements such as special suspensions and 6-speed gearboxes for pagodas and other benz

I’m not going to blow my own trumpet but please, never consider The SL Shop as competent to work on a pagoda. No-one there has any Mercedes Benz training.

Welcome to Scotland!

I live in Edinburgh and I am sure that you will love your time in this city. Your Pagoda might take a week or two to adjust to the climate.

Is your car being shipped into a port in the South of England? If it is, then sending it straight  to Colin Ferns (who is in London) to get it prepped for registration in the UK and whatever other work you need done would be a good start to its life in the UK. Colin Ferns did extensive work on my 230SL a few years ago and I was very impressed with what was done.

In Scotland I have used Merparts to look after my Mercedes cars. Merparts are in Port Glasgow which is about 40 miles from Edinburgh. Merparts is owned and run by Paul and Stefano Mazzoni who are very experienced Mercedes Benz technicians and will be able to do whatever is required to look after your car when you are in Scotland. Merparts did a lot of restoration work on a 280SL which I owned and have looked after my 420SL for 12 years. I have never found anyone in Edinburgh who had the skill and experience to look after my Pagodas or 107 although I did get sent some pictures at the weekend of a 1965 230 which is being restored by a small independent garage in Edinburgh.

@Andrew, I will definitely take all your advice and get in touch with colin ferns as it will be coming in to the south of England.

I am sure I will enjoy Scotland.

Just seen your post, Colin Ferns is your man, speaking from experience of having much work carried out by him there is nothing he does not know about our Pagoda's.
