"Smokey Beezon" (if anyone still remembers Doug) had these on his red 280SL and I recall them as very sturdy!  I'm not sure why one would need them unless you would need protection from some pretty rough terrain.

I looked in my parts books and cannot find those pictures.
What group # are they in?
And possibly what book.

Edition  A   / 1967 250SL

Group 52 /  Table 23

Doubt you will have this  Edition....this one is from my 50 years old library and is an Orig.

Later Editions not have section 52.

I did see Table 23, but the right side was cut off in your pictures.
