I have taken apart the windlaces on the 280 preparing for interior change and was surprised to find number markings inside the leather. I have not found this on our site (others please correct me if I missed it).
Not sure if "windlace" is correct word for these so here's a description for those using a different term. The wind draught seal that is at the door jam at A-pillar and at the door jamb at B-Pillar. The foam is covered with upholstery material.
Anyone seen these numbers before?

113044 is the body code for a 280SL. Would 176 be the interior code for your interior color in leather?
-
Thanks very much.
The leather color code is 248 (brown) according to data card, and also the number stamped in the windlace is not the body number found on the plate under the hood. Agree that the 113044 designates the 280 but just had not seen numbers "stamped" inside the windlace noted on this forum nor on the "holy grail" site.
Any further thoughts would be appreciated by all.

My guess is that the "176" is production number of your car. You can check it from data card of your car.
My ex. 220 SEb coupe -61 had "192" on every piece of leather, including these wind laces. According data card "192" was Prod. no. of that car.

The production number is 148 on data card and on everything that is hand written on back of panels etc is 148. Just this "stamped" number is different.

Oz, Is that the same number stamped on the inside of your door pocket leather?

In the photo from post above, the last 3 digits are indeed the body number of my car.

Well, I took apart the door pocket and the way it was assembled, it sure looks like factory. The door panel has the correct number 148 hand written, but the door pocket has no stamp at all. The way the leather is fitted (skived etc.) and seeing that the metal frame is leather covered it sure looks factory - but no stamp.
However, i just removed the leather off the Soft Top Horseshoe Hatch Cover and this does have the correct 148 stamp ! See photo.
Interesting, that all 4 windlaces have a different number (176), and finding the correct production number on the soft top hatch leather.
Mercakungen & Tyler, you are correct - Thanks.
Maybe there is another 280 with production number 176 driving around with brown windlaces with number 148. ;D
