Title: rearaxle does it fit?

Been offered this axle ;  does it fit my 1970-280?

Yes it will fit.  There is a flat area on the side of the main housing at the bottom that should have the serial number and a gear ratio number (4.08, 3.92, 3.69 etc) If you are looking for a direct match for what is in your car these should agree.  One of the more common enhancements is to install a rear axle with a numerically lower ratio (3.27, 3.54?)which will reduce engine speed on the highways but these axles usually have a larger center housing with a loop of tubing that acts as an oil cooler which the axle you are interested in does not show.

This is a 3,69 wich i think will do nicely with the getrag 5sp.

looks like this one has quite some wear on it .

Could i re-use parts of my 4.08  to replace   yokeass/spidergears?.

450SL, not sure which SL you have, but if you have the calipers on the rear axle, then you are ok.
But if you have the drums, then you need to add the brake proportioning valve.
This axle will fit and looks like it has the calipers.

This axle will work fine. You need to change the emergency brake cables if it came from a sedan.
