Hi, starting to strip the paint off my pagoda above. Most of the chrome etc has been easy to remove however I am unsure about the chrome strip shown in the attached photo, below where the rear number plate fits. I can't see where it might be bolted on as the gas tank seems to be in the way. It may be held on by clips but I don't want to damage it. Can anyone help plse?

Hi Rutger,
SLS show 3 clips and rivets parts 44 for strip 40
https://www.sls-hh-shop.de/main/en/mercedes-230-280sl-w113-/88-b-chrome-parts-outer-body
It looks like the three bars are rivetted to the car, and the clips fitted to the trim, which then slots onto the bars,
Maybe you tap the trip upwards to remove ?
Good luck
Paul

That's the way to do it correctly. ;)
Paul is absolutely right.
Pull it upwards towards the (no longer in place) license plate,
then it comes off.
;)
Best,
Achim

Maybe it is a good place to ask and please forgive me my ignorance: this chrome strip - I see it on some pictures of the cars, on some not. My car did not have it, but it is a Europe car that was taken to the US (now it is back). Maybe someone removed this strip because of the licence plate dimensions.
Did this chrome strip go to all European cars and not on the US cars? My car is March 1970.

Pawel,
It was not fitted to all cars, due to the size of the Registration Number plates in differenig markets, but is now easily retrofitted, as many European Plates are a standard size.
Keep well

Thank you!
Feels like for Euro car I probably should have it. Not sure if I like it though....

Hi Guys, thanks for the help, the chrome strip came off as you predicted.
