Hi Guys,
Can anyone help with my question 'how to protect yellow passivation'? I have newly plated parts which I would like to protect from dulling and eventual corrosion.
Any ideas?

Hello Chris,

Understand that the yellow passivation you speak of, is an augmentation to traditional cadmium or zinc plating. The underlying plating of zinc or cadmium is designed to be sacrificial.

What you could do is apply a clear high-temperature spray coating on the pieces. If you check the better known suppliers of restoration coatings you'll find a variety of different products.

There are some overcoatings.  One is called Empigard and another is Magnigard.  I am currently using a product called Nyalic which can be bought in Aerosol.  If applied very thinly it is undetectable on plated parts as well as cast aluminum.  If you are familiar with Airstream trailers they are coated with Nyalic.

I just discovered something stunning.  I am cleaning my previously Nyalic coated fuel injection pump with Laquer Thinner.  It isn’t touching the Nyalic at all.

Does the Nyalic add gloss to the finish or retain the existing finish? The video of the red Jeep on their site seems to indicate it makes dull finishes look shiny. Unless that is the result of the prep work they did on the Jeep. Also in the same video, the technicians are applying the product quite liberally. They apply it over everything except the glass and interior. That includes paintwork, tires, engine compartment, vinyl trim and undercarriage.

If you apply it heavily enough it will add gloss but one thin wet coat is undetectable.  The aluminum castings are coated with Nyalic.  The plated parts are not coated but I will coat the entire pump after all the adjustments are done.
