Title: 280SL belts to bypass removed York ac compressor
Post by: clunker on October 09, 2017, 22:21:23
I have uninstalled the original ac system interior unit and the under hood plumbing on my 4-spd 1969 280SL. I now want to remove the York compressor.

I may choose to reinstall ac at a later date (using a Sanden compressor etc), so want to just remove the York unit for now and leave the big AC bracket in place, with the alternator up top.

I propose to simply replace the existing AVX 13x1075 belts that run crank - ac - idler - compressor, with suitably shorter AVX 13x??? belts that run crank - idler - water pump. See pic.

Has anyone tried this approach and know the what shorter belt size should be, or have an opinion on whether this would work ok?

Thanks,
Charles

[correction - V-belt profile is AVX]

To close this off, if anyone else looking to just remove the old compressor and leave the M-B AC bracket in place:

The (two) belt size required to run round crank - idler - water pump, is AVX13X840.

I mean to mention that by far the quickest and easiest place to get the belts I needed turned out to be vbeltguys dot com.
