My "1970" 280 SL vin: 11304412012287 has BLUE under dash panels. :o
The interior of the car is blue leather.
My red MB-Tex interior car had black or very dark grey panels.
I was surprised when I saw my panels were blue in color.
Do others have under dash panels of colors other than black?
Can anyone with blue leather tell me if your under dash panels are blue so I can gain more confidence mine are original?
Does anyone have the complete story on this topic?

My original panels are black. Authentic Classics sells black. I know another member here has original anthracite grey color for his 250sl. Thats all I know and that's not much😜

.../... Do others have under dash panels of colors other than black?.../...
There were a number of colours available in the 1960´s for the interior cardboard pieces...
The tech manual is your friend (see attached)
Today, black is sold by vendors... to obtain the desired colour, the panels have to be painted (sprayed) by ourselves

In addition to what Hans just wrote we can also look at the spare parts list for info.
For 230SL cars one could buy pre-cut panels from MB for the three locations and depending on the transmission type. When ordering one had to state the VIN and color number to get the appropriate color.
Those pre-cut panels were no longer available when the 280SL arrived and one had to buy the cardboard and the foam in bulk. But again the VIN and color number were required.

Iconic, my 280SL serial 007749 built January 1969, has Upholstery code 256 which is parchment 8014 leather with Brown 8015 carpet. My underdash panels are dark brown matching the carpet.

Hans S (mbzse), Do you (or anyone else) have the document just like the one you posted in Reply #3, but for the next group of VINs?
The one Hans posted goes up to VIN 113044xx012088 and mine is 11304412012287.
So, I would really like to see the similar document for my VIN.

I have checked about a year ago what you get from Meredes and it is a piece of very expensive black cardboard that you need to cut and form yourself. Nothing special nor unique.
I think Niemoller and SLS sell not bad sets in Europe.
I did my panels myself. I would also be keen on seeing the specifications for VIN above 12088.
