Title: Trunk tab
Post by: thelews on September 03, 2017, 12:51:10
Ever wonder what the tabs at the front top and rear bottom of the trunk were for?

They are the connection points for the leather hold down straps for the soft Hepco luggage.  I slipped one in yesterday after acquiring a luggage set.  My straps aren't for a 113, I have two sets of straps for a sedan.  It was the next generation of hold down straps Mercedes made after the permanently installed ones for hard luggage in earlier models.

The Hepco set pictured here was used in the early 230 before it evolved to the solid brown.

I have what I believe is the original strap in my 230 SL.  It's got some cracking.  Where do you look for replacements?

you don't, you have them made.  Don't part with your originals, valuable.  The set pictured in front of the 190 SL above is original.

John,
Nice luggage !!
Is it new to you? Or, have you had it a while?
I knew that tab at the rear of my trunk (rear of car) was for the strap, but I never understood how it works because my 280, and my last 280 didn't have any sort of a clip in the forward part of the trunk.
Am I just looking in the wrong place, or did they leave them off the 280s?
Mark

Thanks Hans !!
You are correct as usual (as always?  :D ).
I have the "front" attaching point just as your picture shows.  :)
I was looking way to the far forward end of the trunk, not where you show it.
Thanks again.
