Title: New Starter Connection Question
Post by: rbouch8828 on September 02, 2017, 17:57:58
I purchased a new starter from BudsBenz and it has a different connection setup that my old one. I haven't been able to get a clear answer from the folks there about how to make my connections from my existing cable to the new starter. I've attached a photo. Has anyone else run into this and resolved it?

Thanks,
Roland

I replaced and rewired my starter motor about 2 years ago.

If your car doesn't start at some point in the future wiggle the small wires at the starter before you call a tow truck.  I HATE push on blade connectors on starters.  They are exposed to the worst conditions and they corrode over time.

Hello Roland,

One of my customers had the same issue. Rather than modifying the original wiring we made and adapter from a small length of wire. It had a ring terminal on one end and the push on style on the other.  I think that the 190SL group sells this adapter with their starter conversions (same issue).  Contact Jim Villers (you met him at PUB most likely).  Great seeing you both at Viriginia PUB !

Hi Joe,

Great suggestion. I tried to do a search for Jim Villers, but the search didn't turn up anyone.

I had been thinking about doing something like you suggest. My thought was to take a terminal block and a set of female spade connectors, with attached wires and mate them with ring terminals, which I would attach to the terminal block, marrying them with the ring terminals from the starter cable. I would then run a metal strap around the starter and attach the terminal block to the strap with screws.
