Title: Engine serial number location?
Post by: n/a on December 18, 2004, 17:01:17
Hi, on my 70 automatic, I have looked for the engine serial number which is supposed to stamped on the block between the 5th and 6th sparkplug. The number is not in this location??  Is there another location that I am overlooking? Perhaps this engine number location changed with different years, production dates, etc.? Please help, thanks!

The location didn't change over the years. If you don't see any numbers, there's a good chance it's not the original motor. Here are some pix from a previous thread on this:

The numbers are stamped in, so they can fill in with grease & grime.  Try scrubbing the area with a cloth damp with cleaner.
