That is a correct lens for a 280 SL after VIN ending 7938, 7 February 1969.

Thank you for the answer, additionally is there any truth to this (this is coming from the person who thinks it does not fit):

"For the part you shipped the lens is correct, and the chrome bezel is incorrect for this model. The top of the bezel for a '69 w113 has a straight line hugging the rear panel, your part has a curved contour and does not fit my car. It may in fact fit other pagoda chassis, but it does not fit a '69 280SL"

Thank you for taking the time to answer this, I would find it strange for the lens to be correct but the rest not?

This is perfect information re: tail lights W111cp/cab  vs. W113 (280SL)
The plastic lens part is the same
The chrome surround (bezel) parts differ. W113 (SL) is straight; W111 cp/cab has a curve.

The pictures you posted do not really show the bezel shape
