Title: Windshield wiper post removal
Post by: CJHenderson on June 07, 2017, 14:38:50
I'm doing a complete teardown and trying to remove the wiper post. Is there a trick too it? I have loaded it with WD40

Everything in the  dash needs to be removed. The whole framework for the wiper mechanism can be removed afterward. A small snap-ring on the exterior around the shaft keeps the pivoting rod in place.

There is no snap ring but instead it was a 19mm nut. Looks like the WD40 isn't much help

You are correct, I went back and looked closely at where the post goes through and found the snap rings. What confused me was the 19mm nuts that was there, it has no use since the threaded part of the neck that holds the post is part of the body which when seeing it inside the dash appears to be riveted to the body.

My driver-side post was frozen and couldn't be pried from the arm it was attached too. It was very difficult to get it out with the arm connected but I was eventually able to do it after removing the windshield and just about every under the dash.

I hope yours in not frozen together like mine was.

Good luck.
