Title: W123 MBs rule in Tripoli while in Kabul it's all Toyota
Post by: Cees Klumper on April 12, 2017, 18:54:54
Right here in Lebanon. I was on the road from Beirut to Tripoli and beyond towards the Syrian border today, and especially in Tripoli I saw more 1980-ies W123 chassis cars than I've ever seen assembled before, except in pictures of the old assembly line. Many cars still have their 'D' sticker on the back, indicating they once lived in Germany. At any given time I could see at least 10 of these great cars around me, driving or parked. Sometimes three in a row in traffic, just unreal. So if you're nostalgic for this model, or need some parts, Lebanon is your place.

That was a few weeks ago; now I am in Kabul, Afghanistan, and as common as the W123 is in Tripoli, Toyota is just about all you see in the streets here (he observed, while riding in a Toyota). Probably 80% of all cars are that make.
