Title: Rear of Car low

Hi All.

The rear of my car is very low, it looks like something might have collapsed.  I have popped it up on axel stands and had a look underneath and all of the springs seem to be in tact in thier mounts, which also appear OK.

The rear differential is covered in fresh oil, so I am wondering if this might be a clue to the problem.

Any ideas?

Did someone put a hydro-pneumatic compensator on your car instead of a compensator spring?  If so your hydro-pneumatic compensator has failed.

Check the center diff mount in the trunk under the plastic cover. If it has colapsed it will let the differential swing down and in effect let the hubs pivot up. There should be a noticable gap between the large upper dished washer and the mount.

Thanks guys.

I dont think the car has the Hydromat fitted (I am 90% sure there is a spring in that position), so I suspect the cente bush could be at fault.  The car is garaged and I am not likely to get to it until next weekend.

Just so that I know what to look for does anyone have any advice/pictures of what I should see for the centre diff mount?

The car is up on axle stands with wheels off he ground, the wheels are pivotted at a strange angle in this position, possibly backing up this theory.  I assume with the car in this position the centre mount wont be pushed up? - What do I look for to see if it is collapsed?

I can get a jack under the axle if this will help to diagnose?

You mentioned that you've checked the springs in their mounts. Have you checked the condition of the rubbers which are mounted on the top of the rear springs?

You also mention the presence of oil, have you checked your shock absorbers?
