Title: CSV Gasket

Hi All!

I sent my CVS to Hans at H&R, along with my IP.  Hans did a great job on both!  While they were out of the car, I ordered new gaskets for both the IP and the CVS.  I received the new IP gasket and used it when I installed the rebuilt IP yesterday.  The CVS gasket is on back-order, so I cleaned and reused my old CVS gasket.  The old gasket looked ok, but very thin!

How do I tell if this old gasket is bad?  Comments on using this old gasket?

If the 'O' ring was not cracked or too hardened it should be reusable.

Put some light oil round the mating crack and see if it gets sucked in and smokes when you run the engine???

I think Bob is referring to the larger round gasket that goes between the CSV housing and the intake manifold. These are very thin indeed. I imagine it should be ok if it's in one piece and not visibly damaged. The three bolts should hold everything nice and tight. Naj may be referring to the small rubber O ring that seals the CSV solenoid to the CSV housing?

On both my cars there is a thin large 'O' ring CSV to manifold  :(
Believe there is a groove on the CSV too??

Cees, you are correct. I was referring to the paper gasket between the CVS and manifold.  At this point it appears to be OK, but I will replace it once the newer gasket arrives.  Just want to do it right!

Does your CSV have just the gasket or gasket and O ring?
Is the gasket you're waiting for part # 114 141 0080?

Hi Naj,

Refer to attached pic of nicely cleaned CSV.  The paper gasket that I am waiting for fits around the outer edge of the CSV.  It has 3 holes in it so that the allen bolts go thru it when attached to the manifold.  Is there supposed to be another gasket?  Also, I ordered the CSV gasket from Buds PN 114 141 0080.

Your late 280 engine seems to be quite different from the earlier 280s and 230/250s.

'O' ring 002 997 5245 on engines upto 983-10-005135, 983-12-008388
Gasket   114 141 0080 on engines after 983-10-005136, 983-12-008389

There are actually two sizes of the CSV on M130 engines. One is quite a bit larger in diameter than the other. Obviously the intake manifold aperture must match the CSV. I don't know the engine # where the break is, but it seems that there are more of the larger ones than of the smaller ones (based on non-scientific evidence: my own 14 M130 engines ;-))

I wonder how he talks the wife into letting him keep them in the house.
I once knew a guy who had three Ducati's in his living room, but they were clean enough to eat off.

My early '67 (March or May 3)is 001854, LHD, 4 speed, originally 834 moss green, cognac leather, delivered to Stuttgart, imported to the US, now in Canada. Could be long lost sisters....

I was asking about Bob 2's 250.
I can't figure out for sure what the delivery date is for my car....the Ubernahmetog says 3 Ma? (i or r)1967..anyway it's interesting that your car has no soft top. Mine didn't originally either, though the previous owner was unaware that the softop had been added and his insistance that it was original had me confused for awhile. The car had the softop well and a bench seat, but the back of the seat was screwed to the softop well and the well was deeper than normal in the trunk. Whoever did the softop install, did a nice job, it works just fine.
It's the Sherlock Holmes aspect of these cars that makes it fun to own one.
