Well. I bought 'Darcy' my 1967 230SL about 5 years ago (below) and I have to say that I have loved having her. She needed some attention, like most good ladies, but she was in pretty fine fettle to start with. Recently I gave her a new coat for her 50th birthday and I have to say she is now pretty much pefect. So, just when I had run out of things to on her my wife comes home and tells me that she has seen another poor little lady.
So, it starts again, from Monday, if all goes well I will be the owner of two 230 SLs! The new one is a sad looking white body with a good blue interior, she has wrong wheel trims, wrong floor panels, a deteriorating hard top, a very dirty and unloved engine bay and she wont currently start, I havent seen the soft-top yet but am assuming it needs replacing, so it looks like I may be busy. I got her cheap though.
I am planning on doing as much on her myself as I can, but will rely on experts for some of the jobs, such as a re-spray, which in this case will result in a new colour of possibly a pale metalic blue, that choice is a long way off though. I also plan on bringing her back to a top quality standard, whether I keep her or sell her will be decided when she is done.
I will post some pictures when I get them as I know that you all love a good story.

Throw a set of points in it and drive it!!
(Dont we all wish it was that easy)
But seriously, get it running and drive it a little while before you dive in head first on fixing it up. Let it talk to you.

Good advice for a lot of reasons. Once you take a car apart it tends to stay that way for quite a while and in some cases just about forever. If you have a running driving car it's often better to keep it that way.

I can only agree with you. Thats how Darcy came to her current glory and this is no doubt the best way to learn about the issues of the new one. I am hoping that a fresh battery and some air is all that is needed to get the new one moving (no name yet)...time will tell.
I would like to get it running smoothly before I start to tinker.
excited.
Mark.
