Title: Screws
Post by: JamesL on March 08, 2017, 08:56:19
I have had reason to take off the rear chrome strip between the rear light and trunk lock
The hole is slightly bigger than the screw so is loose/working loose and I know this is not the only place I have this issue (door cards, for example).
Assuming I cannot weld/tap a new hole and going with ever bigger screws is the equivalent of kicking the can, is there a solution to this issue that you've used?

Thanks

A solution to loosening screws provided that the hole has not completely stripped out to a bigger screw size, is to get a bit of stranded copper electrical cable and take one of the finer pieces of the copper wire strands and put into hole then try the screw into the hole.

The softer copper will often allow the screw to tighten and hold.  The end of the strand should then be cut or broken off. Doesn’t always work but often will.
