Hi,
I am trying to replace the Crankshaft Damper of my M130 engine. However, part # A108 030 0303 is no longer available as per the MB Classic Center in Germany.
I would appreciate your hel finding the right part and supplier.
Existing part shows "Metalastik 2018122" but I couldn't find it anywhere.
I have seen some used parts in eBay, but I am not sure they will be in better condittion than mine.
Many thanks
Francisco

What happened to your engine? You can change the damper but maybe not the front balance hub due to balance considerations. Aside from the thing coming apart they're just about bullet proof which is why I'm asking. Good chance I have one here.
-
Just to clarify: the damper comes off easily by removing 6 Allen head bolts and prying it off. The balancer is matched to the engine and must never be switched to another engine. Removing it is only necessary to replace the front seal. To re-install you must line up the bolt holes: one hole is slightly offset

"The damper comes of easily" I had to drill all 6 bolts all the way through the damper as it was corroded onto the bolts and frozen solid. New bolts coated with teflon gel before installing.

you were so lucky that the bolts are Allen Head and your drill bit centered itself. Obviously, Murphy resides at your place too. He can be everywhere! He is often at my place nearby. I can't see him, but he looks over my shoulder and says:"Anything that can go wrong, will"

I just did mine on a 69 and having grown up in Detroit I was pleased to have all the bolts work properly. Aside from having a hole in it, the damper doesn't seem to have a preference on where it goes in relation to the 6 holes. Am I hosed now that I do not recall the original orientation in relation to the hub... :o

No, you are not hosed - yet! I was wrong! The offset pin is between the flyweight, which is balanced to the crankshaft, and the crankshaft. The one with the timing marks. It is the one I had to remove to replace the front seal. It is held by a large nut and takes a Gorilla to unscrew it. You are right: The damper does not have a preference where it goes and is not engine specific and - in my case - came off easily once I got the six Allen Head bolts out. They were pretty tight and I had to use an extension on the allen wrench to break them loose.
-
Well, that is a relief, the hub is not a problem. I had more trouble locating a 200 Ft. Lb torque wrench for the front bolt. Is this torque for real?
-
Yes - that torque is for real, but you can use a regular torque wrench like a craftsman that goes to 100 ftlbs but use an extension to double the lever arm. As I remember there are spring washers under the nut and they need to be compressed. Gut n' tight.

Hi,
I am sorry I did not answer to you, but I lost the notification.
Tomorrow I will send you a picture of my damper. My engine is fine, I have just removed it to fix the body and paint the engine bay.
Cheers

Hi Benz,
I lost my notifications and only saw your answer to my post yesterdey.
I had to remove the engine for some body impromvements and that showed a damper with some "issues".
Maybe you can comment on the attached picture.
Many thanks

That looks like damage due to incompetent removal to me.
-
Or the damper hit the floor a couple of times when it was removed from the car. I have some of these in good condition lying around here in France, if you are still looking for one.

Hi Cees,
I don't know what happened but I am interested in replacing it.
How much do you want for it?
Many thanks

Happy to send you one for free - let me locate one with (hopefully) the same part number and send you some photos to make sure we don't send something this heavy in vain. Will reply to your PM tomorrow once I've been able to check.
