Hi Guys.
My car has finally got to the point of being road worthy. Had it MOT'ed in October and taxed in December. Colin Ferns in Kew has been very helpful and I brought my 280 to him as a direct result of what I had previously read on this wonderful site.
As I have other guys doing the bodywork and interior trim, it's time to get the beast insured, so I would appreciate any recommendations/tips you guys may have???
I live in west London but only have street parking at my address. Looking for full comp. nonetheless with cover up to 100K. Also expect to install a tracker and may have to invest in an alarm/mobiliser - if requested?? Would appreciate your thoughts.
John.

Hi John,
Congratulations on hopefully becoming mobile soon.
I have mine valued by Mercedes-Benz Club UK, and I have insured for many years with RH Classic Car Policy (01277 206911), cover includes recovery and breakdown cover for UK and continent. They have not requested a tracker, although it may be wise to have one installed.
I have always found them very helpful, but have never had to claim so cannot comment on their procedures.
Good luck
Paul

Hi John,
Congratulations on getting your car to the point that you soon can enjoy the pleasure of driving it on some of the fine English roads. I'm sure Members from your part of the world will chime in on your insurance question, here in North America I use Hegarty they specialize on Classic and Oldtimer cars. Before I could insure mine I needed an appraisal and photographs. My insurance on my Pagoda is half the cost then what I pay for my daily driver (they also wanted proof that I own a second car). You may find that you need the same documents, photos etc.
As for Street parking, I strongly recommend you find a garage where you can park your treasure. Heven forbid you come out one day to drive her and she is gone. Devices are fine for a short period of time, most people that steal those high end cars fave them dismantled in no time and sell the parts. They will find the burglar device fairly quickly and destroy it. I handle this issue with parking mine in a safe garage, when I go on trips I stay at B&B's I find this to be safest away from city centers and in a private enwirement.
Hope this helps somewhat,
Dieter

My motor traders policy is with Footman James, they were significantly cheaper than my previous insurance company for better cover. I have claimed off them for a windscreen and they paid out ok, took around a month but that was only because I used our own firm and not their designated company.
I refer our customers either to them or to hagerty, my contact at hagerty is phil dunne, he is a good guy, tell him scott from corvette kingdom referred you and he normally gives you a pretty keen price. They are very good at paying out quickly and with no hassle, avoid equity red star like the plague, terrible payers and horrible to deal with.
Aviva used to be good but did get a bit difficult when time to claim. The premium is the least important thing, it is when you need them that it counts. We don't do that much accident repair now so don't get involved with insurance companies that much anymore.
I'd go with FJ or hagerty.

I would advise that you remove that postcode from your post!
Enjoy!

Done!
I am in SE21 and have been with FootmanJ and PeterJames for ages. I shopped around a bit recently and could find no-one who'd touch it if it wasn't garaged overnight. I live in a quiet private dead end street but no dice: garage overnight or not insured. I also have a tracker in the car, and an immobiliser.
I had my valuation form done by some chap called Ferns, and sent photos to peterjames. Agreed value for total loss.

Hi,
Congratulations!
I live in london, park mine on the street (a bit scary I know), insured with footman james, seem a very good company with reasonable rates.
One quote I received stated that if I had a garage, it needed to be within 1/3rd of a mile from my residence, maybe something to check when you are getting quotes.
Cheers, Stuart

Joh,
The photo of your lockup is still captioned with the address! Are you actually trying to get the car stolen?

Have done, but can't locate the photo of lockup which Colin says is captioned with the address?
Running out of time right now so may have to leave over until tomorrow.
Thanks for the tip.
